What Is Insurance Claim Appraisal?

Before we get any further, we want to explain what insurance claim appraisal actually means in case you’re not sure.

Otherwise known as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), appraisal means disputing the amount your insurer is paying you for your loss. This is a process that happens when you’re not satisfied and you don’t agree with the settlement of your insurance claim. Because it is not necessary to retain a lawyer for the appraisal process, it is considered an alternative to lawsuits.

Whether the property in question is commercial, residential, or industrial, the appraisal process can help you quickly resolve all property damage claims:

Fire loss

How the Appraisal Process Works

Let us briefly explain how the appraisal process works and what you can expect. Before you can proceed with an appraisal, policyholders can make a written demand to kickstart the appraisal process. In case both parties agree to the appraisal, they go on to select their independent appraisers. Within 20 days of the written demand, both parties need to notify each other about the identity of their selected appraiser.

The homeowner’s appraiser and the insurer’s appraiser will then select an umpire – a third appraiser that steps in if they can’t agree on the loss value. The appraisers’ task is to set the amount of loss, each stating the cash value and loss of each item.

Why You Need Appraisal Services

Insurance appraisals can be very complex and time-consuming, so the best way to ensure a successful outcome is by getting valuation services. Working with an experienced and honest appraiser is a sure way to get the results you want.

There are many benefits to hiring a professional appraiser. For one, they know the entire process by heart, and they have a network of relevant contacts. Their resources allow them to choose the best umpire, and the experience under their belt enables them to get the best possible result.

Experts are also powerful negotiators, and they’re able to come to a fair and satisfactory agreement with the umpire and the insurer’s appraiser. As a result, they will settle the claim dispute in a way that works best for all parties. And the best part is – they can do it in a timely fashion!

So if you want to expedite the process, save money and energy, and secure the best settlement, getting appraisal services is the way to go
